NEW MATERIAL:A comppund expressed by formula I (R is NH2, OH or SCH3; R1 is NH2 or OH; R2 is OH or H). EXAMPLE:2-Methylthio-4-oxo-3, 4, 5, 6-tetrahydro-6-(L-erythro-1, 2, 3- trihydroxypropyl)-pteridine. USE:Useful for diseases, e.g. perkinsonism due to deficiency in tetrahydrobiopterin and diseases caused by deficiency in catecholamime in the brain and peripheral nervous system. PREPARATION:5,6-Diamino-2-methylthio-4-oxo-dihydroyrimidine expressed by formula II is reacted with phenylhydrazone of L-arabinose in a solvent, e.g. methanol, in a nitrogen atmosphere to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
