INSPECTION SYSTEM FOR ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY USING ROBOT-TYPE POSITIONING OF PROBE

PURPOSE: To make it possible to carry out many after-assembly inspections by the use of fewest possible special or redundant apparatuses, libraries, and programs. CONSTITUTION: This is an improved inspection system 30 for printed circuit boards in which an inspection probe is positioned so as to engage electronically with a selected device on a printed circuit board 41 or its printed circuit board part in order to inspect the printed circuit boards 41 for defects on manufacture. This inspection system conducts grounding and excitation of a predetermined part on a first surface of the printed circuit board 41 by the use of a bed-of-nail type inspection fixture 36 and positions mechanically the inspection probe at a selected part to be inspected on a second surface of the printed circuit board by the use of a robot 38. Further, the system operates the robot-type inspection device 38 and selects a spring probe to be excited in the bed-of-nail type fixture 36 by the use of a control device 31.
