PURPOSE: To facilitate setting of measuring coordinates while eliminating erroneous setting by deciding the set state of measuring coordinates and the validity of reference measured data measured by a worker automatically and then operating measuring coordinates. ;CONSTITUTION: When a worker releases measuring coordinates preset at an external input section 11 and then selects an automatic setting method for measuring coordinates, the set state of measuring coordinates is decided automatically. When the setting of measuring coordinates has not completed, that state is displayed 17 and when a worker makes a reference measurement 10 and then inputs 11 an end of measuring signal, a decision is made 14 whether the reference measured data is valid or not. When a decision is made 14 that the data is valid, the measured data is fed to an operating section 15 where measurement coordinates is operated. When one measuring coordinate term is set, unfinished measuring coordinate terms are displayed 17 and the worker inputs 11 the end of measuring signal and repeats the operations.
