EXTRACT ANTIMICROBIAL AGENT FROM RESIN OF ARAUCARIA ANGUSTIFOLIA

PURPOSE: To obtain an antimicrobial agent, containing a resin extracted from a knoblike mass of Araucaria angustifolia naturally growing in the southern area of Brazil in South America as an active ingredient and useful as an antimicrobial substance in the field different from examples of conventional uses. ;CONSTITUTION: This extract antimicrobial agent is obtained by directly using a knoblike mass produced in a reared axillary part of a branch divided from the trunk of Araucaria angustifolia or preferably pulverizing the knoblike mass into a chiplike form, extracting a resin component therefrom with a solvent such as ethyl alcohol, then distilling away the solvent, providing the resin of the Araucaria angustifolia and using the resultant resin as the antimicrobial agent. The antimicrobial agent is capable of manifesting antimicrobial action on, e.g. Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus terreus, Eurotium tonophilum, Penicillium citrinum, Penicillium funiculosum, Rhizopus stolonifer, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Aureobasidium pullulans, Chaetomium globosum, Fusarium moniliforme, Cladosporium sp., Aspergillus restrictus, Penicillium frequentas, Absia sp. and Geotrichum sp.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
