PURPOSE: To obtain the lubricating oil useful for an air conditioner, etc., containing a carbonate shown by a specific formula, having excellent compatibility with a hydrogenated fluorocarbon, comprising the carbonate having excellent lubricating properties and electrical insulating properties. ;CONSTITUTION: This lubricating oil contains a carbonate of formula I [R¹ is a 1-20C hydrocarbon, a 1-30C alkoxy, a 2-30C ether bond-containing hydrocarbon or a 1-10C halogen atom-containing hydrocarbon; R² is a 2-4C alkyl; R³ is l-12C hydrocarbon, a 2-30C ester bond-containing hydrocarbon, a 1-20C halogen atomcontaining hydrocarbon or a group of formula II (ph is an aromatic substituent group; (n) is 1-5; (m) is 1-3)] such as a carbonate of a formula III [(CH₃)₃CCH₂C(CH₃)₂ group is in the P-position].;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
