PRODUCTION OF 4-METHYLDIBENZOTHIOPHENE AND 4,6-DIMETHYLDIBENZOTHIOPHENE

PURPOSE: To obtain high-purity 4-methyldibenzothiophene and high-purity 4,6- dimethyldibenzothiophene in high yield. ;CONSTITUTION: Dibenzothiophene is reacted with n-butyllithium in a mixed solvent of n-butyl ether and hexane at 55-70°C to lithiate dibenzothiophene at the 4-position. The reaction product is successively reacted with dimethyl sulfate and the lithiated part is methylated to produce 4-methyldibenzothiophene. Dibenzothiophene is lithiated at the 4- and 6-positions in the same manner except the reaction temperature at 70-100°C and the lithiated parts are successively methylated in the same manner to produce 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
