PURPOSE: To establish a control means for an adequate quantity of Si to be added at the time of executing Si deoxidation of molten metal in a VOD refining stage of pure Ni or Ni alloy. ;CONSTITUTION: Mn is added to the molten metal within a permissible quantity range of a desired product at the time of executing the Si deoxidation of the molten metal in the VOD refining stage of the pure Ni or Ni alloy. The deoxidation is thereafter progressed by adding the corresponding quantity of the Si according to the [Mn] quantity in the molten metal.
