PURPOSE: To provide a upsetting press for reducing the width of a rolling stock and a method of upsetting press operation using the upsetting press. CONSTITUTION: A speed reduction drive is equipped with at least a press cylinder 4 and this press cylinder is connected with at least a working pump 7-7', a pressured medium accumulator 8 which is set in parallel with the working pump connects the pressured medium accumulator 8 and the press cylinder 4 via a valve, especially an accumulator throttle valve 10, and the pressured medium supplied from the press cylinder 4 is stored in the accumulator, and the pressured medium is made work in parallel with the working pump.
