PURPOSE: To effectively remove toxic particles from gas discharged from an inflation device in the hybrid inflation device for air bag. ;CONSTITUTION: A device 10 for generating inflation gas for inflating an occupant restraint device for a motor vehicle is provided with a storage chamber 14, which has a filter 98. The filter 98 changes direction of gas flow and removes particles from at least a part of high temperature gas discharged from a first chamber 34 storing a gas generation material. Consequently, high temperature gas in which particle content is markedly reduced is formed. The device 10 is provided with a diffuser having at least one control orifice 32 and at least one exit port 94. Inflated gas is discharged into the occupant restraint device through the diffuser. The direction of high temperature gas is changed by at least about 180 degrees in total from the contact with the filter 98 until the gas enters the diffuser as inflated gas.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
