The invention concerns a method for handling clodded plants, in which method the clodds are formed using a substrate 20 which is held together by a clod former 10. In the method, the substrate 20 is held together by two- part cell rows 10 which include several clod formers, to form a fixed and uniformly shaped cell system 20 which is filled, sown and transferred for cultivation, and, the cell system 20, after cultivation, is taken apart by releasing the halves 11, 12 of each cell row in such a way that the clods are released from the cells upon opening.
