The invention relates to a method for supplying variousdepartments of a large self-service store equipped with anumber of shopping carts with department-specific information.Each of the items of information specific to a departmentof predetermined length, is digitally stored in memory indecentralized fashion in a transmitter/receiver unitassigned to the particular department and then transmitted ina predetermined cycle in serial form over an infrared path.By means of receiver/transmitter units mounted on all theshopping carts of the store, the transmitted information isreceived by the receiver/transmitter units of the shoppingcarts located in the particular department, stored in buffermemory there, and reproduced on a display of the receiver/transmitter units.Immediately after each playback of information specific to aparticular department on the display of the receiver/transmittermounted on the associated shopping cart, a signal confirmingthis visual playback of information is transmitted via theinfrared path to the transmitter/receiver unit provided inthat particular department and recorded there.
