the present invention relates to novel enzymes, nitrile hydratase activity, able to catalyse the conversion of nitriles to amides.they are characterised by an enzymatic activity towards substrates with a nitrile and a carboxylate function than towards substrates with theat least two nitrile functions.it is, also, a dna sequence coding for an enzyme having nitrile hydratase activity, hydrolyzing nitriles to amides.an analogue of this sequence due to the degeneracy of the genetic code.a dna hybridizing with one of these sequences or a fragment thereof, and having a coding for enzyme nitrile hydratase activity.finally, the invention provides the seeds able to produce these enzymes.
