Autogelling binder resin for offset printing dyes with improved storage stability

Oil-soluble natural resin acid esters modified using phenolic resin, which after storage for at least 3 months as solids exposed to air still form nonturbid self-gelling solutions at a concentration of 40% by weight in mineral oil and are suitable as binder resins for offset printing inks. They are prepared by reacting A) natural resins or natural resin acids, B) monocyclic and polycyclic phenols which are monofunctional or polyfunctional with respect to oxo compounds, C) aldehydes or aldehyde acetals, D) aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic-aliphatic polyols, E) alpha ,ss-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids or their anhydrides, F) C1-C80 carboxylic acids or carboxylic esters having an iodine number of less than 50 g of iodine/100 g of carboxylic acid or carboxylic ester and, if desired, G) ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon resins in the presence of H) magnesium compounds at a temperature in the range from 100 to 300 DEG C, with continuous azeotropic distillation of the water of reaction.
