The present invention provides a biological bandage 10 comprising an envelope 12 enclosed cell 16 that secretes a biologically active cell product 17 such as a growth factor that promotes wound healing. The envelope 12 consists of a permeable lower film 15 and an impermeable top film 14 that diffuse the cell product 17. Preferably, the bandage 10 has a separating portion 30 located between the two membranes. The invention also relates to a method for genetically manipulating a cell (16) and a barge for treating a wound. The bandage 10 provides a continuous and uniform source of fresh and pure cell product 17.
