The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a silver-metal oxide material suitable for use in electrical interconnections containing oxidized silver-solute metal alloys in oxidizing atmospheres. This oxidizing atmosphere has a sufficient amount of halide to inhibit the formation of a protective oxide scale around the alloy. The present invention also relates to silver-metal oxide materials prepared by such methods and electrical interconnects having such silver-metal oxide materials.
