An improved method and an accompanying device for producing a hologram, a defraction grating or similar structures uses a punch (dye, stamp) (3), on whose underside, on the punch surface (11), a corresponding partial hologram, partial defraction grating or a similar structure, which are to be impressed on the material carrier to be processed (treated), are provided. The punch surface (11) represents only a partial area of the hologram or defraction grating which is to be finally produced.
