Device for smelting and superheating ferrous material, esp. cast iron, in a liq. or gas fuel fired hearth-type blast furnace is claimed, whereby unburnt stack gas components undergo complete post-combustion, and NOx emissions in waste gases are minimised. The device consists of an O2-gas or O2-oil fired combustion chamber (11) connected via a gas pipe (12) to a furnace gas suction device (4) situated below the max. charge filling level (9).
