In an automotive exhaust gas catalytic converter (2, 34) esp. for the treatment of nitric oxide, the novelty is that several sections (6, 12, 36 to 58) are joined together with roughly parallel exhaust passages, to form a single honeycomb catalytic body (4, 32), and that each section (6 to 12, 36 to 58) has a cell density of between 50 and 1000 cells per square inch, and a wall thickness of less than 1 mm. The sections (6 to 12, 36 to 58) are joined together by an adhesive (16) incorporating either silicon dioxide, aluminium oxide, iron oxide, titanium oxide, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, calcium oxide or sodium oxide. The adhesive (16) contains between 45 to 49 per cent silicon dioxide or aluminium oxide and has a coefficient of linear expansion of 5 - 6 x 10-6 K-1.
