In a body protector, in particular shin protector for sportsmen/women, having an (outer) impact shield of a rigid and hard material and a damping layer of softer material than the impact shield arranged between the impact shield and the part of the body to be protected, a textile spacer material is provided as the damping layer, which material consists of two layers of covering fibres arranged spaced apart and, located between them, monofilament fibres arranged perpendicular or essentially perpendicular to the layers of covering fibres. By the measures described above, it is possible using comparatively simple means to provide a body protector which, despite a small thickness and low weight with high flexibility, provides an optimum protective effect and additionally is not damaged by impact loading.
