Instrument (catheter) for producing an enclosed cavity inside a vessel as protection against embolism during percutaneous, transluminal recanalisation (PTR) of vessels. Protection against embolism during PTR is impossible with the instruments available so far. The catheter permits sealing of the constricted vascular section from the blood stream by means of two inflatable balloons and flushing by means of the flushing and suction channels. The catheter permits, then, the material detached or removed from the vascular wall during PTR to be aspirated, so that this material can no longer cause any embolism.
