Porous or pseudo-porous anisotropic material prepn., consisting of a conglomerate including: (a) discrete micellar units having at least partly tubular configurations and a lyotropic liq. crystal type structure or impressions thereof; and/or (b) a ceramic polymer based matrix with alkoxide recurrent elements, in which the units and/or their impressions are included; comprises: (i) using at least one ionic surfactant, water and opt. at least one cosurfactant, suitable for the formation in a mixt. of a lyotropic liq. crystal type structure or phase; (ii) contacting the mixt. with at least one alkoxide so that a lyotropic liq. crystal structure can form and a condensn. hydrolysis reaction, allowing polymerisation of the alkoxide recurrent elements, can take place; (iii) opt. making the resulting 'pseudoporous' material porous by treatment for at least partial elimination of the micellar units. Also claimed is the above described porous or pseudoporous material.
