PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for dynamically dividing a memory for reducing a processing delay by preventing frequently used information in a set associative memory from being replaced with another when a plurality of programs is executed and a device utilizing the method. SOLUTION: A set discriminating device which specifies a set associative data block group in a cache memory 24, etc., is provided. In order to discriminate substitutable blocks which can store new information from non-substitutable blocks which are not able to store new information contained in data blocks, a block substitution logic circuit 70 is used. The circuit 70 only writes new information in the substitutable blocks in the data blocks. The circuit 70 can be realized by using a block substituting mask 72 which discriminates the substitutable blocks and non-substitutable blocks from each other.
