PRODUCTION OF 1,4-DIAMINO-2,3-DICYANOANTHRAQUINONE

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate of an anthraquinone-based disperse dye at a high yield and high selectivity by reacting 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone with HCN in an organic polar solvent in the presence of a basic compound of a specific metal. ;CONSTITUTION: The object compound is obtained by reacting (A) 1,4- diaminoanthraquinone with (B) HCN in (C) a neutral organic polar solvent (e.g. DMF, 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone or dimethylsulfoxide) and (D) in the presence of a basic compound of a metal such as Li, Ca, Sr or Ba [e.g. calcium (hydro)oxide, hydrogenated calcium or calcium carbide].
