PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound capable of providing a photochromic thin film at a high concentration even without dispersion into a polymeric medium and further a photochromic polarizing material such as a waveguide of a high contrast or polarizing sunglasses. ;CONSTITUTION: This compound is expressed by formula I or II (R1 and R4 are each an alkyl; R2 and R5 are each H or an alkyl; R3 and R6 are each H or a halogen), etc., e.g. di(2,4,5-trimethyl-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene. The compound is obtained by adding a strong basic compound such as n-butyl-lithium to, e.g. a compound of formula III in an inert organic solvent such as dry tetrahydrofuran at a low temperature (preferably about -60°C), stirring the reactional mixture, then further adding and reacting perfluorocyclopentene therewith.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
