摘要

The feasibility of incorporation of photochromic and thermochromic compounds in addition to other dyes in reinforced plastics as a means of monitoring the cure process in reinforced plastic matrix materials was established. These compounds,when incorporated in a resin matrix,show changes in color,absorbance,transmittance,or reflectance,dependent upon the time and temperature history of the cure cycle. The resins investigated were a heat cured epoxy system,and an asbestos filled phenolic compound. Correlation of spectral changes in the resin during the cure cycle with heat distortion and solvent extraction tests to indicate polymerization and crosslink density properties of these compounds can possibly be used as a nondestructive heat technique.
