PURPOSE:To easily and speedily know the flow place, etc., of underground water with high accuracy by obtaining a graph of longitudinal temperature distribution time variation from temperature measurement results of respective temperature measuring elements which are arranged longitudinally at intervals and a graph of circumference-directional temperature distribution time variation from temperature measurement results of respective temperature measuring elements which are arranged separately in the circumferential direction. CONSTITUTION:The measuring instrument constituted by equipping a base body 1 with heaters 2 laterally at intervals and longitudinally long and temperature measuring elements nearby the heaters 2 separately in the longitudinal direction is buried in a boring hole in the ground. Then the heaters 2 are powered on individually to generate heat. The graph of longitudinal temperature distribution time variation is obtained from the temperature measurement results of the respective elements 3 arranged longitudinally at the intervals and the graph of circumference-directional temperature distribution variation is obtained from the temperature measurement results of the elements 3 which are arranged separately in the circumferential direction. Then the flow place of the underground water is measured from the graph of longitudinal temperature distribution time variation and either or both of the flow direction and velocity of the underground water is obtained from the graph of circumference-directional temperature distribution variation.
