FAST BLIND EQUALIZATION PROCESSING METHOD FOR ADAPTIVE EQUALIZER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve processing time without deteriorating the quality of an equalization processing by starting a decision directed adaptive equalization processing when coefficients are converged at the blind equalization for the sub-set of the coefficients in an adaptive equalizer. ;SOLUTION: When a new signal is detected in a detector 10 (when power is supplied), a micro processor in a coefficient control network 80 executes a blind equalization processing. Namely, all the coefficients of a 128 tap FIR filter in the adaptive equalizer 20 are preset, and they are set to be zero except for eight intermediate taps. Then, 32 intermediate taps are tried to be blind- equalized and whether the coefficients of the adaptive equalizer 20 are converged or not is judged. When they are converged, the decision directed adaptive equalization processing is started. When the coefficients are not converged, blind equalization is repetitively executed by using the larger sub-set of the coefficients. When such blind equalization processing process is used, speed can be improved by 4:1, namely, speed can be improved by four times.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
