PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the reduction in the yield by providing two laser stripes for generating first and second laser beams to each monolithic laser beam die, and simultaneously operating the two laser stripes. ;SOLUTION: In a laser array 82, two monolithic laser beam dies (dies) 86a and 86b are mounted on a substrate 84 such as a head sink. Laser stripes (stripes) for emitting laser beams (beams) 88a and 88b are arranged on the die 86a, and the stripes for emitting beams 88c and 88d are arranged on the die 86b. The proper arrangement of the dies 86a and 86b on the substrate 84 is operated by etching a groove 90 in the stripes and the dies 86a and 86b, or mainfaining a prescribed distance from the both edges of the dies 86a and 86b. The two emitting stripes have different wavelehgth, and the two laser beams having the same polarization age set.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
