A dope of an ultra-high-molecular-weight ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer is extruded from a nozzle of a shaping die at a temperature sufficient to maintain the dope in a flowable state, the extrudate is taken up at a draft ratio of at least 3 and crystallized to form a preliminarily drawn oriented body of the ultra-high-molecular-weight ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer, and the preliminarily drawn oriented body is drawn at a draw ratio of at least 3. The obtained drawn shaped body has a high breaking energy.
