PURPOSE:To remarkably increase the area of a raising lawn unit by forming a culture soil layer on a specific holding membrane laid on the bottom of a bed, sowing the seeds of lawn on the soil layer and growing the lawn. CONSTITUTION:A holding membrane 7 having plural holes at nearly uniform spacings and made of a flexible material is laid on the bottom of a bed 10 having a flat bottom and a specific depth. A culture soil layer 8 composed mainly of sand and having a thickness of 5-30mm is formed on the holding membrane and lawn seeds 11 are applied to the whole surface of the soil layer with a sowing apparatus 12. The sowed seeds are irradiated with light of a light source 13 and supplied with nutrient liquid from a tank 14 through a pump 15, a drip tube 16 and a control valve 18 to effect the growth of lawn 9. The grown stalks and leaves 9a of the lawn 9 are mowed with a mower 22 to a prescribed height and the lawn is grown until a part of the hair root of the root part 9b of the lawn 9 is extended through the hole of the holding membrane 7. The grown lawn is taken out of the bed by pulling the holding membrane 7 by an end.
