PURPOSE: To provide a method by which the residual capacity of a battery can be calculated with high accuracy by successively calculating the terminal voltage of the battery by measuring the terminal voltage and a residual capacity meter for battery. CONSTITUTION: After a power source is connected to a residual capacity meter for battery, the initial value Q0 of a consistent charging state Qi of a battery is found from the initial value V0 of the terminal voltage Vi of the battery. Then, after the relations between the Vi and Qi and the current Ii of the battery are found and the relational expressions between the Ii and Qi and the variation Qi of the Qi are found, the Qi at a time interval t is found from the Vi and Qi based on the relations. The value of Qi is updated and the residual capacity of the battery or the residual capacity for standardizing a fuel gauge is found from the updated value of the Qi . Moreover, the process returns to the step for calculating the Qi . The calculating process of the residual capacity of the battery is performed by repeating these processes.
