WORD PROCESSOR WITH JAPANESE-ENGLISH TRANSLATING FUNCTION

PURPOSE:To enable a user to easily select an adequate equivalent by displaying English equivalents in word units and English equivalents in idiom expression units at the same time. CONSTITUTION:A word acknowledging means 4 divides an inputted Japanese character strings into words by using Japanese parts of a dictionary part 2, and allocates and outputs the contents of the dictionary part 2. Then an idiom expression acknowledging means 5 acknowledges a combination of plural words having the same idiom expression ID in the result received from the word acknowledging means 4 as an idiomatic expression, consults with an idiomatic expression dictionary part 3 according to the ID as a clue, and allocates an English equivalent to the acknowledged idiomatic expression. Further, a common attached translation generating means 6 makes the form of the word translation outputted by the word acknowledging means 4 and the format of the idiomatic expression translation outputted by the idiomatic expression acknowledging means 5 common. Then a translation display means 7 displays the word translation and idiomatic expression translation outputted by the means 6 at the same time. An equivalent selecting means 8 accepts a user's choice of English equivalents.
