Recombinant DNA technology is used for the transformation of plants leading to transmission of herbicide resistance. The present invention particularly relates to the construction and use of a recombinant DNA molecule which contains a glutathione S-transferase (GST) gene which increases the enzymatic activity of GST during the course of expression in the plant.
