PURPOSE: To obtain a nonaqueous MgO-C-based stamping material preferably usable as a hearth refractory of an electric furnace for melting a special steel causing large hearth damage and provide a method for its application. ;CONSTITUTION: This stamping material comprises MgO 31 as a principal component, scaly graphite 32 with 10-25wt.% moisture content, a phenol resin as a nonaqueous binder, organic fibers 33 and inorganic fibers 34. The organic fibers 33 and the inorganic fibers 34 form pores 35 by respectively burning or melting in drying and heating stages after stamping application. In the application, vent holes for gases are formed in each stamped material. The pores 35 and the vent holes form diffusion passages for generated gases. Therefore, delamination or explosive exfoliation of the stamped material are inhibited in the drying and heating stages after the stamping and the life of the furnace is prolonged.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
