PURPOSE:To obtain a high-efficiency device by recording only data about traverse lines whose deviation from a specific traverse line are smaller than a permissible value, and thus reducing the capacity of a data file and shortening a measurement time. CONSTITUTION:While a surveying ship sails along the specific traverse line, the depth of water is measured at respective measurement points and measurement data are recorded in a data processor. At this time, a survey area 15, necessary traverse lines 17, and traverse line permissible width 19 are set through a graphic display(GD) and a keyboard(KB) to constitute the screen of the GD. Then when the sailing traverse line is set, a track indicator set traverse line 18 and permissible value 19 for limiting deviation are drawn, and data corresponding to them are set in a CPU. Then, the track 20 of the sailing is displayed and a steerman steers the ship while monitoring the track screen, etc. Thus, the position in the sailing is displayed, but data which is not within the permissible width 19 are not discarded without being recorded. When a measurement result nearby a desired measurement point is better than before, old data is replaced with this data.
