Automatic drift indicator for aerial navigation, corrector of the drift angle

The above-entitled instrument is characterised by the use of a relative shift occurring between the aircraft and an inertial solid installed on board, on a horizontal plane; said shifting occurs according to the resultant vector from the composition of the velocity vector of the aircraft and the lateral wind vector acting on the aircraft and it therefore determines the magnitude of the drift angle. The inertial solid is located on a light carrying structure pivoted at one end; the displacements of said solid are picked up by a pointer which travels on an appropriate reading scale indicating degrees of drift. The same angular displacements can also be used by an electronic transducer to be sent to the directional actuator of the automatic pilot of the aircraft, so as to automatically correct for the drift angle.
