To determine the rate of nucleic acid synthesis in eukaryotic cells, a nucleotide which is derivatised with a hapten or is not radioactively labelled is introduced into the cells, with the addition of liposomes, and the rate of nucleic acid synthesis is determined on the basis of the incorporation of the nucleotide via the labelling or derivatisation thereof.
