The invention pertains to a process for condensation cleaning of steam-gas mixtures using a surface condenser (3) with inclined pipes (7) that have coolant flowing through them and the steam-gas mixture flowing essentially transverse to them, the inclination of the pipes, the flow velocity of the steam-gas mixture and the coolant temperature being set so that a condensation film forms around the pipes (7) and then flows off along the pipes essentially free of waves or drops. The invention also pertains to an apparatus for condensation cleaning of steam-gas mixtures.
