Method for determining the optimal shape of a plate of the like movable with respect to a wall or in a narrow housing

The method involves adjusting the original shape to lie on a screwable surface which is the closest fit. From the coefficients linking the curvilinear and cartesian coordinates of the surface a tensor is produced. The values of the coefficients of the tensor which minimise the cost of changing the initial shape to a screwable shape are determined. A plate sliding within a wall such as a window on a vehicle is designed by modifying an initial shape which was produced from immediate constraints by computer aided design.
