Antigens defined as follows are new: (A) an antigen that has a molecular wt. of ca. 100 kD (SDS-PAGE) and is obtainable from the nuclei of human proliferating cells in cell cycle phases S, G2 and M on the basis of a reaction with monoclonal antibody S2 produced by hybridoma cell line DSM ACC 2200 and (B) antigens that have molecular wts. of ca. 24 and 28 kD (SDS-PAGE) and are obtainable from the nuclei of human proliferating cells on the basis of a reaction with monoclonal antibody Anti-p28/24 produced by hybridoma cell line DSM ACC 2199. Also claimed are: (1) a method for producing monoclonal antibodies that react with proliferation-associated antigens from cell nuclei and (2) monoclonal antibodies having no cross-reactivity with cytoplasmic material or with nuclear components of non-proliferating cells produced by this method, specifically that recognise a nuclear proliferation-associated antigen with a molecular wt. of (i) ca. 100 kD or (ii) ca. 24 and 28 kD (SDS-PAGE).
