Electrolysis cell has a solid electrolyte membrane sepg. the anode and cathode chambers. The membrane is on the anodic and/or cathodic side with a planar porous electrode or an electrode of electrically conducting material and a porous coating in surface contact, esp. with outer actuation of the anode surface to mfr. ozone on overrunning the anode. The cell housing has an electrically insulated current feed to one of the electrodes and consists of two cell housing shells sealed to each other, of which one partially or completely encloses the cathode side and the other the anode side. The solid electrolyte membrane is held between front sides or sealing surfaces of the shells and sealed. The sealing pressure between the sealing surface of the shells and the surface pressure of both electrodes on the membrane is specified by outer pressure mechanisms. The novelty is that the bearing pressure of both electrodes (3,9) on the membrane (7) is adjustable, independently of the sealing pressure, by an outer device (4,5,10,13,14) for a pressure mechanism (5,8) leading through the cell housing wall (30) to the anode or cathode chamber (28,29). The end section (17) of a bolt (5,12) fed through the wall (30) is connected to a pivot (18) fitted to the back side (16) of an electrode pressure plate (8). The pivot allows centering and/or swivelling of the planar electrode (9) diagonally to the adjustable axis (22) of the bolt (5,12) in a parallel plane to the membrane (7). The bolt (5) is adjusted using the device (4,5,10,13,14). The electrode (3) is arranged on a flat section of a plate (27) or the inner wall of the cell housing (15) in a parallel plane to the membrane. USE - For mfr. of ozone.
