A method for the operation of a stud welding system and apparatus therefor

A stud-welding system, consisting of the welding gun with lifting magnet and spring preloading for the stud holder and a control unit, is operated in such a way that the position of the stud holder is indicated to the control unit over the entire working cycle and is compared with a predetermined displacement-time behaviour. The differential signal controls the lifting magnet in such a way that, when the spring is released, the lifting magnet brakes the stud holder while maintaining the predetermined behaviour. When the stud is lifted, the predetermined arc length, despite stud tolerances, can be maintained by means of the position transmitter.
