The laser power of the appts. being assessed is reduced depending on the positions and the magnitude of the region of the disc showing recording or reproduction with errors to derive a measure for classifying the quality of the working equipment. A defined part or component of the laser beam can be shuttered out for absorption, dispersion or reflection conforming to a geometrical shape.
