For each of two starting converters (1,2) for each direction of travel, a hydrodynamically stepped running converter (3) is connectable. The starting converters have rotor wheels (6,7,9,10) running in the same direction. The turbine (9) of one of the starting converters (16) provides drive using a double spur gear chain (12,13) on a common intermediate shaft (5), while the turbine (11) of the other starting converter drives through a triple spur gear chain (14-16) on the intermediate shaft.
