The device has the tested shock absorber (16R) acted on by a variable oscillation frequency, with detection of the resulting oscillation movement for providing the ratio between the amplitudes of the supplied oscillation and the resulting oscillation movement, used as an indication of the effectiveness of the shock absorber.The supplied oscillation has a frequency in the vicinity of the characteristic resonance frequency of the shock absorber and is varied at a variation rate of 0.1 Hz/sec or less.
