Softening wax for textiles, process for its preparation, aqueous compositions containing it and its applications for the treatment of textiles.

Prodn. of fabric-softening waxes comprises (a) reacting tristearin with N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-ethylenediamine (HEDA) in the presence of polyethylene glycol 1000 (PEG 1000) and a basic catalyst at 135-145 deg.C until 65-95% of the amino gps. have been converted; and (b) acidifying the reaction mixt. with acetic acid and then cooling it to room temp. Also claimed are: (1) a fabric-softening wax prepd. as above; (2) aq. fabric-softening compsns. comprising a dispersion of the above wax in water; and (3) prodn. of an aq. compsn. as above by melting the wax at ca. 90 deg.C, dispersing it in water at ca. 40 deg.C under vigorous agitation, and cooling the dispersion to room temp.
