Low friction valve train for an internal combustion engine

PURPOSE: To provide a lightweight and low friction valve train for a high-speed internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION: A valve train 12 has a tappet 39 preferably made of a lightweight metal such as aluminum and magnesium. An outer surface of the tappet is impregnated with a solid film lubricant to reduce friction during operation. The valve train further comprises a camshaft 26 having a cam 28, and a wearing/bearing surface of the came is impregnated with the solid film lubricant to reduce abrasion during the operation.
