RARE GAS DISCHARGE LAMP, RARE GAS DISCHARGE LAMP DEVICE, AND LIGHT SOURCE DEVICE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE USING LAMP DEVICE

PURPOSE: To provide a rare gas discharge lamp, lamp device, light source, and liquid crystal display device with which an excellent light emitting efficiency is obtained and in which the light flux increases. CONSTITUTION: A rare gas discharge lamp is structured so that a rare gas consisting chiefly of xenon is encapsulated in a bulb 2. The inside diameter (d) of the bulb 2 is made under 10mm and the current density, over 0.4mA/mm2 , and the relation 1=P.d=7 should be met, where P is the encapsulation pressure of the xenon. This lessens the self-absorption of xenon, heightens the acceleration of electrons, enhances the light emitting efficiency, and increases the total light flux.
