PURPOSE: To provide an alkaline zinc lead-acid battery having a long cycle lifetime, in which the generation of a trouble such as a change of electrode shape and growth of dendrite is eliminated by restricting the elusion of the zinc at the time of discharging, and electrolyte thereof. CONSTITUTION: A negative electrode 1 made of zinc and a positive electrode 2 which is made of the material having an oxidation potential lower than that of zinc, are arranged opposite to each other through a separator 3, and the negative electrode 1 made of zinc and the positive electrode 2 are respectively formed with terminals 4, 6 so as to form an alkaline zinc lead-acid battery. At this stage, the negative electrode 1 made of zinc, the positive electrode 2 and the separator 3 are made to electrically contact with each other through the electrolyte for alkaline zinc lead-acid battery, in which potassium thiocyanate and potassium hydroxide at least at 12 pH are included.
