PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain an excellent wear resistance for a long time by providing an artificial diamond coated film formed on the surface of a tungsten carbide sintered hard alloy base body so as to have a specified residual compression stress. ;SOLUTION: In a diamond coated sintered hard alloy tool made by forming an artificial diamond coated film (diamond coated film, hereinafter) having a thickness of 2 to 100μm on the surface of a tungsten carbide sintered hard alloy base body, the diamond coated film is provided so as to have residual compression stress of 150 to 400kg/mm2. Thus, a tool having a good wear resistance and maintaining an excellent cutting performance for a long time is provided. Such a diamond coated film is formed by making the conditions of, for instance a reaction gas composition of H2-1 to 5 volume % CH2, a temperature of 1000 to 1200°C, a pressure of 10 to 40Torr and a holding time of 10 to 30min. and gas composition of H2, a temperature of 550 to 700°C, a pressure of 10 to 40Torr and a holding time of 10 to 30min. as one cycle and repeating this until a prescribed film thickness is formed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
